“Painting with Light”

A bit of Trivia – The word photography is derived from the Greek – “Painting with Light”.

In this two day workshop retreat, the focus will be on understanding and being creative with natural light. We will explore shadows, dappled light, silhouettes, direct light, side light, back lighting etc… Hopefully we will get to photograph a sunset and maybe a sunrise and the “Golden Hour”.

Although the main focus will be on light, participants will be asked to fill out a questionnaire ahead of time to identify any additional learning objectives. Workshop structure involves some classroom like instruction but, mainly lots of opportunity to take photos, and group discussions and feedback as we learn from each other.

Sunday’s workshop features a hands on, interactive and participant lead agenda – a day of questions being answered and skills practiced. As always, we will have fun, enjoy great food, nature and good company.

Facilitator Tracey Murfin is a long time client of Thirteen Moons who loves capturing this land with her camera. You will have seen her beautiful work featured on our website and the nature inspired greeting cards sold here. Her photo of our driveway is also featured on the back cover of our new cookbook. Photography has become a recent passion that connects Tracey with nature, feeds her soul, allows her to appreciate the moment, and to really ‘see’ the world.

Tracey is an avid student herself through self-study and courses to better blend the technical side of photography with the fun and creative aspects.  She is passionate about sharing what she has learned with others and believes that ongoing learning is a collaborative and shared experience.

Retreat pricing quoted above includes one night of shared accommodation, 2 lunches, 1 breakfast and 1 dinner and two day workshop.  Option for staying two or more nights and private room are available.

You may also choose to come Saturday’s workshop only for $95, which includes lunch.

“An extremely enjoyable workshop with an informative and gentle instructor. Louise, your property and the food are so nourishing to every aspect of one’s being. I feel inspired to invest in a better camera and to ‘see’ with different eyes.”

“Relaxed but very informative, and not at all intimidating. Very enjoyable.”
